This year, our Jamacha Point Self Storage location chose Sharia's Closet for its charitable donation. Sharia's closet's mission is to help provide free, emergency clothing to community members who are homeless or are facing financial hardship.
Sharia’s Closet was started in 2006 by Shamine Linton as a small project. Shamine began gathering clothes, diapers, and hygiene products for community members she saw struggling throughout the city of San Diego. Before she knew it, she began operating a “closet” out of her patio where she would distribute her inventory to those struggling with homelessness, addiction, unemployment, and other financial hardships. Eventually, she moved to their current location at 6244 El Cajon Blvd unit #5 which was a former chiropractor’s office. After successfully converting this office into a warm and charming space, they now offer a welcome area, office/ library, five walk-in closets for infants and toddlers, children and teens, women’s casual/professional, men’s casual/ professional, and a laundry room to those in need.
Sharia’s Closet has grown to serve over 15,000 people in San Diego County currently. They are partnered with 60+ social service organizations, the military, the police departments, and an office/closet at the Family Justice Center in Downtown San Diego where they serve domestic violence victims.
SDSS is proud to be able to donate to such a worthy organization and we sincerely appreciate their efforts in aiding homelessness and financial hardships in our County.
