From August 1st to August 31st, each of our 20 facilities will be hosting an online Virtual Food Drive through The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank in effort to provide nutritious food to those in need, advocate for the hungry and help bring awareness to the public about hunger-related issues.
450,000 San Diego County residents face food insecurity every day, children account for 177,000 of that number. The San Diego Food Bank (SDFB) is the largest hunger-relief organization in San Diego County. Annually, they have distributed up to 28 million pounds of food and on average serve 350,000 people per month in San Diego County Communities. We applaud their efforts and are grateful for the opportunity to help support such a wonderful cause that is so close to home.
What is a Virtual Food Drive?
It’s easy! Donors can purchase nutritious food items directly through this link. Once you have clicked on the link, you will be prompted with a start button or an instructions button on how to donate virtually. Please know that we are here to help and answer any questions if needed.
Why use the Virtual Food Drive?
The answer is simple - to get more food to the hurting communities faster! This saves the SDFB time and resources and gives their team more flexibility as they operate solely on volunteers. This also gives the volunteers the option to purchase more of the most-needed food items in bulk. For this reason, we will not be collecting any physical donations this year at our facilities.
Fun fact: Did you know that every $1 donated provides 5 meals to those in need? A $5 donation would provide 25 meals!
We can all make a difference in our local communities. San Diego Self Storage thanks you in advance for your support and for lending a helping hand to San Diego families in need.
