Brad and Beth Thorp rent a unit at Carlsbad Self Storage as of late 2021. They needed a unit to store event equipment such as pop-up tents, tables and supplies for their non-profit organization, the Mitchell Thorp Foundation. They just held their 13th annual 5K run on the 5th of February here in Carlsbad at Poinsettia Park. Tremendous excitement and signups brought out over 1,000 people to this year’s event.
Participants were entertained by CHS Excalibur Dance Team, a Skydiving exhibition, live music and DJ, a kids zone area with inflatables, mini therapy ponies, vendors, and so much more. Not only does this annual event help other children, but it keeps Mitchell’s spirit alive. The race benefits children who are suffering from life-threatening illnesses, diseases, and disorders, by providing financial, emotional, and resources to their desperate situation. They provide urgently needed support through their programs:
- Medical and Home Assistance
- Healing and Rehabilitation
- Wheelchair Conversion Vans
- Youth Leadership Council
Brad and Beth Thorp are the parents of Mitchell, who sadly passed away on November 19, 2008, from an undiagnosed illness. Shortly after, they decided to create the foundation as a way to help others with their medical needs and costs, by paying the vendors directly. Their foundation includes programs that assist with rehabilitation, transportation, hotel accommodation, counseling, and education.
