Community Involvement in 2017:
At San Diego Self Storage, we pride ourselves on making a difference in the communities we serve. Participating actively in our neighborhoods has been a principal endeavor since our first storage facility opened in 1972. In fact, as part of our Community Giving Project, each of our 17 locations is heavily invested in the communities it serves. Over the course of each year, all San Diego Self Storage managers are given $500 to donate to a local charity of their choice. In 2017, we witnessed a wide range of deserving organizations chosen to be the beneficiaries of our Community Giving Project.
Here are a few organizations San Diego Self Storage chose to support in 2017:
- San Marcos Mini Storage – San Marcos Pop Warner
- North County Self Storage – Escondido Community Child Development Center (a preschool to assist low-income families)
- Smart Self Storage of Eastlake – Second Chance Dog Rescue
- Butterfield Ranch Self Storage – Temecula Youth Baseball Champions League (for children with disabilities)
In addition to community specific charitable contributions, our San Diego Self Storage locations team up twice a year to sponsor two worthy causes. Each May our offices collect non-perishable foods and donations to support the San Diego Food Bank. This year we added the option of a Virtual Food Bank, where users could visit an online grocery store and select certain foods they wanted to donate. San Diego has over 3 million residents and almost 15% of them live in poverty. With your help, we were able to collect $10,000 and over 2,000 cans of food in 2017’s campaign.
Toys for Tots is a wonderful organization that allows local, less fortunate children to enjoy the magic of the holiday season. San Diego Self Storage has been a proud sponsor of Toys for Tots for over 20 years! During December, each one of our offices is decorated according to a theme, and the staff encourages tenants to take part in helping make the holidays special for these deserving children. This year, both Fox News and NBC featured our company in newscasts and shared our mission with thousands of local viewers.
With your help, as well as community members and local businesses, our facilities collectively received almost 19,000 toy donations this past December. This remarkable accomplishment could not have been possible without our customers and friends, and for that we are sincerely grateful. We have already set a goal to reach and surpass 20,000 toys next December. Toys for Tots is an organization that warms our hearts, and we are so happy to play our part in its success.
What to look forward to in 2018:
We are thrilled to announce that San Diego Self Storage will be “adopting” a dog in the San Diego Police Foundation’s K9 Unit. This is an exciting way for us to give back to our community, not just now, but also over the dog’s entire career in the SDPD. Due to the overwhelming support this unit receives, we are hoping to “adopt” our dog later this year. We will be sure to give you an update as soon as we know more details!
Lastly, be sure to check our blog every month and follow our annual Community Giving Project, which begins this month. Our 17 facilities have already begun brainstorming organizations and non-profits that they would like to support this year. We appreciate the communities we serve and love giving back to San Diego. And of course, we are very excited for 2018’s Food Bank drive and Toys for Tots’ campaign!
