Our Facility Manager, Karina Martinez, had a wonderful experience during this initiative, which brought back cherished memories and allowed her to engage closely with some of her favorite animals—owls!
The Importance of Agua Hedionda Lagoon
Agua Hedionda Lagoon is a vital and sensitive ecosystem divided into three sections along the coast, extending almost two miles inland. This lagoon is home to hundreds of animal and plant species, including some that are threatened or endangered. The lagoon serves as a crucial rest stop for migrating or native birds, which are indicators of the area's ecological health. The efforts of the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation have been instrumental in preserving this unique and vital ecosystem.
The Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation and Discovery Center
The Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation not only works tirelessly to protect the lagoon but also operates the Discovery Center. Open to the public, the Discovery Center offers a fun, hands-on educational experience. It boasts an impressive collection of exhibits, gardens, and live animal ambassadors, providing numerous learning opportunities for school-aged children through virtual field trips and exciting camps.

A Memorable Experience
Karina Martinez, the Facility Manager at Carlsbad Self Storage, had an unforgettable time during her visit. Not only did she get to hold an owl—her favorite animal—but she also enjoyed reminiscing about her son's time as a Boy Scout, recalling the ceremonies held in similar settings.
